David Bowie 1947-2016

"I'm an instant star. Just add water and stir."

As long as I can remember, David Bowie has always been my hero, he was an exceptionally talented musician, actor and painter. To hear of his death is an absolute shock (I'll be dressed in black for at least a week). David Bowie, aged 69, peacefully passed away in his home yesterday surrounded by his family, at the hands of cancer. He will forever be remembered for everything he has blessed humanity with, he was a gift. The whole world will be mourning the loss of this talented star.

"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it

won't be boring."

Just two days prior to his passing, David celebrated his 69th birthday and the release of his eagerly anticipated 26th studio album, "Blackstar".

Not many people know this, but music aside, Bowie was also an extremely talented actor and painter and is known for his roles in 'Zoolander' and his lead character in 'Labrinth', where we see him play an evil goblin king. Zoolander is a bit of an odd film, but I'm being completely honest when I say, I sat through it just for Bowie's scene towards the end (it was totally worth it).

I was truly hoping this'd be the year I'd get to see Bowie live, I've seen many of his concerts on television and they all look phenomenal, it would've been an absolute dream to be able to experience it.  Later this month, a DVD will be released titled "David Bowie in his own words", which contains interviews and contributions from the man himself.
I always admired Bowie, as he was his own thing, he was unique, different, and didn't care what anyone thought of him, he did what he want with his own life, and he was happy.

"I always had a repulsive need to be something more

than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought,

"Fuck that. I want to be a superhuman.""

In his later years, he tended to shy away from the lime light and wasn't as active as he was earlier in his career, releasing albums further and further apart from each other and rarely being seen in an interview.

I can't name my favourite Bowie song, theres too many to choose from, instead here are my top twenty (in no particular order):

  1. 'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore
  2. Oh! You Pretty Things
  3. Moonage Daydream
  4. Janine
  5. Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud
  6. It Ain't Easy
  7. Eight Line Poem
  8. Suffragette City
  9. Modern Love
  10. Rock 'N' Roll Suicide
  11. Life On Mars?
  12. Heroes
  13. Changes
  14. Space Oditty
  15. God Knows I'm Good
  16. Rebel Rebel
  17. Letter To Hermoine
  18. Five Years
  19. Ziggy Stardust
  20. Starman
The song I reckon Bowie will be most remembered for is either Heroes (which is featured on The Perks Of Being A Wallflower) or Space Oddity, which I think is a very relevant song to current events. Changes is also featured in Shrek and the lyrics are shown at the start of The Breakfast Club.

From Starman to Blackstar, Bowie never ceased to amaze and I'm sure his impression on the world will remained stamped for generations to come, noone will ever come close to his genius.
