Meg's Must Listen To...

Single Review: Circa Waves - Lemonade — Only A Northern One

Keeping up with new releases can be difficult, especially with the massive amount of music being produced over the pandemic. So, to help you wade through the new tracks being released, this segment will discuss a few new songs, with varying music styles, that you should definitely check out:

The first notable track came out only last week, in which Circa Waves have teamed up with Alfie Templeman in the new song ‘Lemonade’. A pairing the indie community didn’t know they needed, but I think it is safe to say, we can all agree on what an amazing mix of artists this is. A must listen to!

We cannot talk about new releases without mentioning the Magic Gang’s new album ‘Death of the Party’, much like their first album, it is jam packed full of quality tracks although a personal favourite of mine; which I recommend to be listened to, is ‘Just a Minute’. Although, checking out the album as a whole is something of a necessity.

A definite feel good track that is worth a listen is ‘Favourite Gold’ by MASI MASI, with only three songs released currently on Spotify they are the ones to watch in the upcoming months with more tracks being released by them very soon!

However, if something more unusual and synth dominated is your thing then check out both ‘Valleys’ and ‘Golden’ by Working Men’s Club. With a quirky style keeping their tracks exciting and unpredictable, they are another band to keep your eye on.

If you’re looking for new songs with a heavier, more rock vibe to them ‘The Rift’ by Chappaqua Wrestling, ‘Try and Entertain Me’ by Sounds Like a Storm, or You Me At Six’s new song ‘MAKEMEFEELALIVE’ are definitely the tracks to check out. Also, ‘Real Love Song’ by Nothing but Thieves deserves an honouree mention in the rock category. All of these tracks are sure to satisfy all your indie-rock needs.

Last but not least I am going to talk about two Glasgow born bands. The first is The Ninth Wave, who have recently released a six track EP ‘Happy Days!’, listen to both ‘Come Down Forever’ and ‘I’m Only Going to Hurt you’, trust me, you will not be disappointed.

The second band is Declan Welsh and The Decadent West with new single ‘Ghosted’, their first new release since their debut album  last year. Both bands are worth a listen to in their entirety and will definitely take a permanent place on your playlist.

That’s all the tracks I have to suggest, make sure to have a listen to a few and keep supporting little, upcoming bands!
