For some, getting motivated is an almost impossible task, but the same does not apply to Scottish synth-pop musician Indoor Foxes (Martha Barr), who has thrived throughout lockdown, producing records from her very own bedroom studio. Indoor Foxes introduces us to her mix of DIY, indie-pop, and lo-fi sounds that also occasionally feature the sound of her Scottish accent rippling through. A perfect combination.
The Edinburgh-based artist has dropped her brand new single ‘Mr. Yellow Eyes’, following on from the success of ‘Peach Stone’. The record, which has been released on the Classy Lassy Label, is the artist's viewpoint on the inevitable heart-breaking complications which can occur in long-distance relationships. The narrative is expressed through honest and poetic songwriting which features elements of relatability that most of us can take comfort from.
Indoor Foxes' music has been featured on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio One, and Gigwise. Martha Barr started playing music from an early age and songwriting comes naturally to her.
Speaking on The Yoko Pwno Podcast, Martha says: “I have always, from a young age, had that place in my brain for telling stories, so when I had the opportunity of having the technology in front of me to put all these different sounds together that I liked and then to sing, was really cool, and I wanted to share it with everybody”.
Indoor Foxes has previously said that the sound she creates tends to take influence from music that she enjoys. The artist has shown to be comparative to other strong female-fronted acts such as Wolf Alice, Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red, and Beabadoobee, but despite the similarities, Indoor Foxes has been widely praised for her unique sound which is highly promising for an act only at the start of her musical journey.
'Mr. Yellow Eyes' is on 7" vinyl backed with 'Peach Stone' and is available to order now. You can also listen to Indoor Foxes on all major streaming platforms.
