Ingrid Michaelson and Zayn Malik have unleashed a very surprising and uplifting collaboration, which everyone is going crazy for!
‘To Begin Again’ reflects the hard times that many of us have encountered over the last year, due to COVID-19. The song was co-written with Sarah Aaron, who is known for her help with Zedds’ tracks ‘Stay’ and ‘The Middle’.
The track begins with Ingrid’s gentle vocals, slowly building up into the chorus, which bursts into an eruption of emotions – a very unexpected turn in the track. Zayn soon enters and ties the track together with his effortless vocal range.
The song is a one-off collab for Michaelson. She has stated that she wrote ‘To Begin Again’ the night that Biden won the presidency for the United States of America. Ingrid has described the joy and relief that so many individuals were filled with on the day of Biden’s victory, and how this collective feeling inspired her to write a song that would allow this moment to live on. Despite Ingrid’s fun creating ‘To Begin Again’, she has recently stated that she will not be creating any new pop tunes; her main focus, for now, will be working on music and lyrics for the Broadway adaptation of ‘The Notebook’.
In another statement, Ingrid has discussed how particular Zayn is about certain projects… so when Zayn’s management was interested in her track, she felt honoured. Zayn has been an inspiration for Ingrid, and she has been no stranger in commenting on his vocal range and impeccable high notes. The collaboration seemed to happen very easily, as both artists have been fans of each other for a while.
When Ingrid received Zayn’s vocal recordings, it was undeniable that the track was going to be special. Ingrid has stated that Zayn “does what he believes in. And he doesn’t do what he doesn’t believe in. And the fact that he chose to sing on my song is extremely amazing. And the fact that he chose to do that now, especially knowing what I know about him, which is he is very elusive.”
‘To Begin Again’ is available to stream now on every platform. It is a song that you need to listen to!
