Meet your new musical Monarch - All Hail Baby Queen

In terms of her music career, Baby Queen is fairly new to the scene, but that doesn’t stop her from sounding like she’s been doing this for years.

She’s got addictive tracks that you can’t stop listening to and lyrics that all audiences can relate too; and when combined with the I don’t care, I am who I am attitude, this is one artist who’s bandwagon you definitely want to be on.

The love for this artist is rapidly growing and even features a variety of celebrity fans; it’s safe to say that Baby Queen is very quickly becoming musical royalty and this is royalty that we can all connect with and bow down too. I got the opportunity to chat with the Queen herself to discuss all things music including her single Dover Beach, her career so far and the future for this badass Baby.

You’re relatively new on the music scene, how have you found your experience in the industry so far?

So weird because I’ve been doing it since I was 10. But it’s literally this past year that I’ve actually been a musician. For me there’s been lots of up and downs and a lot of learning and a lot of work because I’ve had to do things myself to keep hold of it together. There’s a lot of work, there’s a lot of pressure but it’s so incredible and one of the best experiences of my life. It’s more difficult and taxing emotionally than I thought it would be when I was 10 years old and decided I wanted to be a pop star.

How has lockdown been for you and have you found it has influenced or inspired your music?

I signed my record deal in lockdown over zoom when we first went into lockdown. I filmed my first music video in lockdown on a go pro. I found that I got the good end of the stick as far as musicians go during the time of covid. It’s been very sheltering as I’ve not been out on tour, but I’ve been able to write and work on my own. But I’ve also not been as thrown into it so I am in a way lucky.

What is your creative process like?

I do this thing where I connect lyrics and it will be all these thoughts that I’ve had over weeks and weeks and it’s a strange thing. I will connect lyrics in themes and then when I go to make a song I’m not drawing on something, I know how I feel because I’ve been writing down my feelings and thoughts for months. I will then create like an instrumental loop because I want to make the lyrics the most important thing and then that informs the song.

Where do you find inspiration when it comes to your music?

It’s usually quite a sarcastic and jaded take on my personal thoughts and feelings. So I very, very rarely write anything that isn’t 100% true to what I think and feel. I think that’s what Baby Queen is at the moment is the most sarcastic way of saying what I think.

Have you found yourself listening to music during lockdown, if so who/what have you been listening to?

I’ve gone full circle back recently. I grew up with my parents listening to a lot of soul and funk but I was almost in a way deprived of the great rock records of the 90’s like rock albums. So I’ve been going back and listening to like Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch nails, Radiohead; those have been some big ones because I feel like I need to go back and draw from where rock and roll really came from because I never had that reference and realised that’s not cool. So I want to learn from the greats.

If you could create a dream gig line up with yourselves as headliner and 3 support acts, who would you choose as your support?

Im gunna make a show that I think my fans would like to come too so I’m gunna go with - Lorde, and I’d put Phoebe Bridges and I’d give myself a guilty pleasure and put Matty Healy from the 1975 on stage and then I can go to that one.

What does the future hold for you and what can fans look forward to from you in future?

I’ve got a lot more music coming out this year and I’ve also got some big announcements coming soon. I’m currently working on my first album which is exciting and hopefully loads of festivals over the summer. I’ve got a support with Seagirls and then a headline show and I’m all for touring in 2021 and meeting people who listen to my music to see if they actually exist.
