Following the success of their May-released single 'Sick & Tired', the Brighton-based quartet seem to have made a recovery with the release of their catchy new single 'Pulp'.
Featuring spirited drum beats and boingy electric melodies, the band’s new adrenaline-filled track packs quite a punch, already accumulating over 1.2k Spotify streams since its release this week.
Drummer Annabel Whittle sets the track off to an electric start with a strong metronomic pedal beat, which pairs perfectly with Leila Deeley’s bouncy, repetitive guitar melody. Tippi Morgan’s ceaseless undulating bass tune runs right through the verse maintaining the hooking rhythm, over which singer and co-songwriter, Chloe Howard layers nonchalant vocals, her quasi-spoken verse leading into the tune’s robust indie-rock chorus.
There’s no doubt that the funky quartet’s new track leaves listeners with that pumped up, post-gig feeling, a swing in their step and perhaps the urge to pick up the electric guitar.
Yet, with the chorus catchphrase "Simon knows…" stuck on repeat in our minds, we can’t help but wonder: who is this Simon guy?
From an interview with Fader magazine, vocalist Chloe Howard gives us the answer with a glimpse into her lyric-writing world. During the interview, Howard confesses her track’s inspiration "came from a slightly unnerving dream of a spooky man cloaked in orange pulp, tip-toeing and dancing through the streets at night". Howard’s end goal, she went on, was to create a surreal-themed song, inspiring "feelings of unease and danger’"
Yet, however wacky her creative process may be, the uniqueness of 'Pulp's' lyrics is sure to have us too dancing through the streets with Si!
The band’s talent, daring originality and creative flair has made them increasingly popular: being featured on the ‘BBC Introducing Glastonbury’ special last month, selling out their 2021 Brighton headline show 6 months in advance, and starring on the cover of Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ playlist.
With their fresh indie sound and new release 'Pulp', it doesn’t look like anyone will be getting ‘sick & tired’ of Lime Garden’s tracks anytime soon!
