Ahead of the release of their second album, ‘AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS’, next year, New York six-piece MICHELLE tease the tracklist with latest single ‘MESS U MADE’.
Serene yet strikingly gripping vocals are accompanied by a steady, compelling beat to balance each counterpart and ensure your ears stand to attention. A somewhat repetitive chorus punches with each line and sees the band’s defiance breakthrough in both their melody and lyrics: “Don’t tell me, tell me, tell me, I’ve heard it before / This is the mess you made.”
The aptness of such well-composed vocal harmonies drive this tune even further, drawing the listener in hook, line and sinker. A hearty, almost screech-like line from lead vocalist, Emma Lee, brings the verse to an abrupt halt to reinforce the seemingly rebellious nature of the track and give the tune the forceful kick it needs: “I admit, last summer vacation / I was the bitch.”
Accompanied by a relaxed music video shot at home, MICHELLE find a perfect balance between melancholia and madness. It fits their aesthetic wonderfully. Very much an easy, tranquil listen, ‘MESS U MADE’, with its impeccable vocals and infectious beat, is far from being a mess.
