No Vacancies are shaping up to be one of the hottest new bands on the Manchester indie rock scene. Formed back in 2019 by lead vocalist Will Mcgarrie and drummer George Sheasby, the four-piece specialise in sharply penned lyrics and catchy beats, which, as they proclaimed to Northern Revive Magazine, are “designed to get arses off seats.”
Despite taking influence from titans of the genre, including fellow Mancunians Oasis, No Vacancies display distinctive confidence in their own sound. Like previous releases, ‘Bad Habits’ and ‘About You’, ‘This Feeling’ is a punchy, upbeat track. Mcgarrie’s bold vocals and sharp lyricism are its stand-out features.
The classic indie rock tune relies on a heavy bass that holds strong throughout its guitar-led verses and anthemic chorus. The transition from “I’m sick of sitting around, waiting for better days” to “Can you feel it coming around?” is complemented by a sonic enactment of pent-up energy releasing. The sheer vitality of the track is only enhanced by the band’s stellar song writing. It is much to their credit that 'This Feeling' often feels like an auditory adrenaline rush.
The self-assuredness of the band’s latest single suggests a group that has been on the scene for longer than just two years. While No Vacancies are perhaps still in the process of carving out their niche in the industry, their current discography shows a passion for the rock’n’roll genre and an impressive mastery over its core elements.
They have plenty of time to experiment and grow their sound. In the meantime, ‘This Feeling’ exemplifies just what it is that’s so compelling about No Vacancies — the combination of undeniably stellar musicianship and an infectious love of what they are creating.
