St Paul and the Broken Bones released their third single, ‘Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn’ from their upcoming album, ‘The Alien Coast’, out in January 2022 via ATO records.
The track’s release is accompanied by a live in-studio performance, filmed at Ol Elegante Studios in Birmingham, Alabama where the eight-piece band is based and where most of their earlier releases were made.
Following ‘The Last Dance’ and ‘3000AD Mass’, their latest single takes the final slot on the new album’s tracklist.
‘The Alien Coast’ was conceived around the idea of falling asleep in a hotel and the nightmares that ensue. While the preceding tracks are fraught with apocalyptic imagery, ‘Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn’ sees the narrator waking up from a hellish dreamscape and missing his home and loved ones; the sense of yearning is clear in the falsetto delivery of direct and honest lyricism.
The dreamy instrumentation and delicate vocals are grounded in St Paul and the Broken Bones’ signature-vintage aesthetic, of course with oodles of soul. Rumoured to be their “most adventurous and original output yet,” the ensemble’s fourth album will also blend elements of psychedelia, stoner metal and funk.
Ahead of their album’s release, the octet has already begun its tour, set to be their largest to date. With their Leeds show at Brudenell Social Club already sold out, tickets are still available for their London and Glasgow dates in early February.
