The Wombats have recently shared ‘Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This’, the title track from their new EP.
It comes only nine months after the band’s first ever UK number one album, ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’, which was released in January.
The EP announces a new era for the band, swapping riff-happy melodies for a more electronic sound with heavy choruses, which is no doubt epitomized in the first song.
No The Wombats track is complete without a huge chorus and off-kilter lyrics, and ‘Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This’ is no stranger to this: “I thought it would be more my style/ Champagne and an overnight kit/ I only ever did it one in a while/ Is this what it feels like to feel like this? / Is this what it feels like to feel like this?”
The lyrics here suggest that the protagonist has caught someone in a hotel room in a situation that they wouldn’t usually be in, and it is more of the narrator’s style. When talking about the inspiration for the lyrics, frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy said in a press release that the song is about when he drove past a derelict hotel room, and “wondering what could be going on there, it’s about catching someone in a situation that is unusual for their character.”
The band continues their indie ascent with ‘Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This’. The six-track EP will be released on 18th November and according to Murphy it will feature songs that were supposed to feature on ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’.
