Wet Leg Deliver a Bold Cover of Ashnikko’s ‘Daisy’

Following an exciting summer performing at Glastonbury – tail winding their success with their current tour – Wet Leg have performed a cover of Ashnikko’s iconic track ‘Daisy’ in collaboration with Spotify. Formed by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, Wet Leg rose to fame in June 2021 with their smash hit debut single ‘Chaise Lounge’

Their success was recognised by their debut self-titled album ‘Wet Leg’ earning a Mercury Prize nomination.

Ashnikko’s original track is a quasi-pop-punk banger reminiscent of Avril Lavigne and Paramore. In their cover, Wet Leg exude confidence and sultry tones to a catchy drum beat that sets the landscape for the song’s edgy and suggestive lyrics: “I’m no prey, but I am pursued / Pray for me, Nana, on the church’s pews”.

The rebellious and non-conformative lyrics, comedically yet empoweringly singing “CEO, I’m savvy / Respect a bitch, I’m a maverick” acts as a siren call for new-wave feminism. When sung by the band, the meaning of the lyrics appears amplified through their predicated soft yet bold vocal style, demanding attention from their listeners and re-imagining the powerful nature of the original track.

Alongside the ‘Daisy’ cover, Wet Leg has re-released ‘Convincing’ from their debut album, newly refurbished with a warming approach and greater mellow tone. Whilst also embarking on their own tour, Wet Leg is set to be the opening act for Florence and the Machine and Harry Styles towards the end of the year.
