Four-time Grammy award winner Macklemore and the legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier collaborate for the first single of the rapper’s upcoming album, ‘Ben’.
Macklemore, who dominated 2012 and 2013 with his hit single ‘Thrift Shop’, surprises his fans with ‘Heroes’ as he collaborates with boom bap legend DJ Premier and tries a new sound he's not used before.
Since he is primarily known for his pop-rap tracks, fans may wonder if his upcoming album will stick to the same sound or take a different direction.
DJ Premier, who is considered one of the best producers in hip-hop music and known for his collaborations with artists like Nas, Guru, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, proves his scratching skills yet again.
Throughout the track, Macklemore pays homage to his childhood, old habits, wishes and memories. The rapper talks about his heroes referring to his favourite MC’s and producers as he says: “Wanted a perm like DJ Quik / My mama said, 'Ben, are you aware your hair is way too thin?'"
With the new track ‘Heroes’, it raises the question of whether upcoming album ‘Ben’ will feature any other strong producers like DJ Premier, as Macklemore’s surprising chemistry with grimy old-school production amazes the listener and offers real potential for future collaborations.
'Ben' is set for release in March 2023.
