Following on from an extremely successful 2022, Olivia Dean shows no sign of slowing down.
After appearing on Loyle Carner’s album last year and releasing a string of strong singles, Olivia Dean strips everything back for ‘UFO’, which features linear production and has a calming aura about it.
An intimate and cute opener to Olivia Dean’s busy 2023, the single kicks off with just vocals. The artist compares her love life to trying to drive a UFO: “I’m trying to fly a UFO, I don’t do this often / plus I forgot all the controls me and my sexy problems”. A casual acoustic guitar joins her for the second verse, as backing vocals are heard in the background.
A glitzy piano is introduced later in the track, as well as a simple bass guitar, adding some depth and direction to the mix. Dean’s vocals are as impressive as ever, as she gently floats her way through this short 2-minute and 30 seconds cut. This single is a first from her yet-to-be-announced debut album and comes just before the artist from Walthamstow embarks on a sold-out UK-wide tour, starting in March.
