Mura Masa releases high energy new single ‘Whenever I Want’

After bursting onto the scene with hit tracks such as ‘what if I go’ and Lovesick’, Guernsey-born producer Mura Masa is back once more with the high tempo ‘Whenever I Want’. Following on from last year’s album ‘Demon Time', this single is mainly focused on a repeated sample which sings “I’m allowed to F*ck up whenever I want”.

The Grammy award-winning artist has worked with a myriad of high-profile artists, with big hitters Asap Rocky and Lil Uzi Vert just a few of the star-studded names. This cut showcases his skills within the electronic music genre, as he explores a more breakcore-esque sound.

The high-energy baseline and pounding kick drum bring this tune to life, with choppy synths adding some dynamism to the mix. There are breaks from the sample which allow the track to swell and contract, before kicking back in with the aforementioned punchy kicks and baseline. Despite this, the track can feel somewhat one-note and repetitive at times, with no real variation from the lead melody.

The production is where this track earns its merit. When listened to with headphones, the small and subtle nuances can be heard, which really contribute and add value to the range of the overall mix.
