The Regrettes cover ‘Dancing on My Own’ and turn it into an indie, synth-heavy banger

Garage pop quartet from Los Angeles The Regrettes have covered the iconic disco tune ‘Dancing on My Own’ by Robyn and have twisted it with their alternative girl band sound.

The American band consists of Lydia Night, Genessa Gariano, Brooke Dickson, and Drew Thomsen who all met at music school and have since released thre beautiful albums with the most recent being ‘Further Joy’, featuring boppy singles like ‘Barely on My Mind’.

The track opens with similarities to the original with that noticeable deep guitar and steady drumbeat. Lead vocalist Lydia Night has the perfect vocal tones to cover this track, and her soothing notes compliment the punk-inspired play of the instruments.

The highlight of this cover is the bridge. Every instrument fades out and you can really hear the stunning vocals in all their glory as well as the twinkly guitar in the background. Suddenly, their garage rock influences shine through in perfect melodies and hard-hitting drums before returning to the extreme and legendary chorus.

The Regrettes have managed to make this track their own using their distinctly recognisable sound but have yet kept the original song in the forefront which is magical to achieve.
