Leeds-based pop-rock collective about-faces have been alluding to the release of their debut single for quite some time. Posting teasers and snippets to their social media accounts to grab the attention of future fans of the band.
Now, the wait is finally over. ‘Under The Sun’ is out now and is an introspective track that explores the feelings between two individuals.
‘Under The Sun’ is an emotive track that explores the highs and lows of heartbreak. about-faces excellently use elements of pop to paint a picture of vulnerability and melancholy. This is first shown within the opening of the track, where a light and airy synth is blended together with a repetitive, thudding guitar riff that alludes to an unfocused and hazed feeling, acting as that split second of oblivious clarity after waking up post-breakup leading to a bittersweet feeling.
This is developed further through the vocal performances of Sennan Ludman and Danielle, whose vocals are both soft, but the difference in pitch and tone add depth and texture to the track, complementing each other and once again reiterating a doleful sentiment through pop elements.
However, about-faces challenges those feelings and add in juxtaposition to the overall sound of ‘Under The Sun’ by picking up the tempo and adding in abrasive elements associated with rock in the instrumentals. This includes a wave of intense electric guitars and a hard-hitting drumbeat that

about-faces may be new to the scene but ‘Under The Sun’ is an impressive and catchy debut single that has many layers and complexities to it.
