Committed to pushing the boundaries of musical expression, and exploring socialism and communities through their slick and breezy cuts, ACTVE CAPTVE (the brainchild of Justin Han) finds solace in genre-defying soundscapes and soulful vocal performances.
Taken as a teaser from a part of their larger project, the upcoming EP 'Saudaze', 'Ellis Island' focusses around a narrative that delves into symbolism of new beginnings and hope for immigrants as they leave their homes behind for the chance at a new life.
Politically charged, though subtly so, the track utilises eerie synths topped by explosive instrumentation and soft vocals that perfectly teeter the edge between bedroom pop and indie rock.
“Ellis Island” is more than just a single; it’s an emotional narrative set to music, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journeys of love, loss, and the ever-present possibility of new beginnings.”
Han's classical training shines through in the soft-toned instrumentation, uplifting notes and gospel-esque contributing vocals from Cassie Brandi, that further emphasises the embrace-new-beginnings undertones of the project.
'Ellis Island' is a reflective, powerful offering from Han & co, and eloquently captures the confusing, yet exciting journey that accompanies pursuing better times. Following on from their previous release, 'I Can't Explain', 'Saudaze' is set to be an impressive, explorative project from the Austin-based outfit.
