Plucked from his upcoming fourth record ('Between Lightning and Thunder'), his latest effort, 'Better Than Here', dotes on perseverance and staying strong - there are always good times ahead.
Channelling sounds utilised by the likes of Iron & Wine and Ray LaMontagne, the lead single 'Better Than Here' offers up a soothing reassurance accentuated by optimism-infused guitar notes and soft vocal intonations.
While teetering on dark and desperate, the slow and simplistic nature of the track is delightfully soothing, despite the narrative of reflections on a crumbling relationship and last-ditch attempts on reconciliation. Lyrically deep and subtly mellow, the bittersweet longing of “It’s got to be better somehow” is perfectly delivered by East's honeyed vocals, akin to the slower tracks performed by Noel Gallagher.
Speaking on the new track, East notes, “It’s an ode to the boldness of buoyancy and hope, and to the promises we make to those we love when weathering dark forces”.
Completely immersive, stripped-back and slow-burning, East's latest delve into melodic rock is a delightful addition to his already impressive and extensive discography.
