Funky yet familiar, Kaiser Chiefs’ latest single ‘Feeling Alright’ combines driven indie pop with a fresh and funky disco vibe but keeps the soul of what makes a Kaiser Chiefs bop so polished with a tight structure and stellar vocals.
With their eighth album entitled ‘Easy Eighth’ slated for release in March of 2024, the English indie-rockers have called for the help of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Nile Rogers for this new single, and after the first 30 seconds, his influence can most definitely be heard.
With a run time of just over three minutes and thirty seconds, this song wastes no time in getting listeners in the mood for a groove. Effervescent bass riffs, paired with funky guitar lines dominate the soundscape of this track, with snappy drums and driven piano chords in the chorus adding a further layer to the mix.
Lyrically, this track conveys a positive message, with the chorus encouraging listeners to shrug off the problems of everyday life and fight away any negative thoughts:
“Feeling alright, I’m yours and mine / Feeling alright, don’t be scared to fight.”
The bridge, kicking in at around two minutes and thirty seconds gives the listener a quick breather, as the boys from Leeds scale it back to a simple drum clap loop and a synth lead. This respite is not long-lived however, as the bridge ends with a funky crescendo, before reverting straight back into the final chorus.
A solid single from front to back, if the rest of their eighth album follows this pattern, Kaiser Chiefs fans will be very satisfied come next March.
