South London has a history of generating new bands, and Hotel Lux is yet another that can be added to the books.
The Portsmouth- born, and now London-based group have just contributed to the world's collection of Christmas songs with the new release ‘The Carvery’.
Drawing on the classic nostalgic elements from the holiday tunes we all know and love, ‘The Carvery’ starts with a twinkling melody of bells that soon lunges into a grumpy retelling of typical drunken escapades- creating an uplifting contrast and echoing the likes of Slade and The Pogues.
The song's chorus is a boisterous but relatable post-punk toast to Nigella Lawson, encouraging festive sentimentality and reflecting a rowdy pub anthem.
After being challenged by RAK studios, the band produced ‘The Carvery’ in just a day, with funds raised on Bandcamp being donated to Shelter - a charity for housing and homelessness.
The festive hit follows the release of ‘The Vice’- the band's first music release since their debut album ‘Hands Across the Creek’. Hotel Lux have also recently announced a run of UK headline shows throughout December, and a number of performances as part of Independent Venue Week 2024.
