The track is an audio recollection of times past, with a self-proclaimed Vietnam-Era acid rock sound, filled with wah-wah leads and captivating vocals that linger, almost ghostlike around the listener. The atmosphere created through the melding of instrumentals and vocal delivery ebbs and flows through the song, with a heavy reliance on fuzz to provide an unshakeable vintage sound.
“What he played on the track is amazing. I’ve never heard him play quite like that, but what is so fascinating to me, is that it is clearly him playing. As recognizable as a familiar human voice,” mused frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor. This couldn't be more true of the guitarist's solo towards the middle of the song, a sound so characteristically Slash it speaks for itself, providing a heft that is perhaps unexpected of the band.
The release follows the second single from the band's 12th studio album, ‘Danzig With Myself' released last month. This also featured musical royalty in the form of Pixies frontman, Black Francis, making it clear that ‘ROCKMAKER’ is not just a catchy title but a statement of intent.
With an unavoidable melding of acid rock and grunge sounds, ‘I'd Like To Help You With Your Problem’ is a collaboration no one saw coming, but one we all needed to bring an injection of classic rock to 2024.
‘ROCKMAKER’ is due for release on March 15, 2024 through Sunset Blvd. Records; you can preorder the album here.
