Charli XCX Sets The Tone For Summer Pop

Charli XCX’s latest single, ‘Von Dutch,’ sets the tone as the lead single from her upcoming sixth studio album titled‘Brat’.

The track exudes unapologetic confidence and charisma through a fast and infectious beat. The song is named after a popular Y2K brand with the same name, and the song and video definitely reflect the stylings of the brand and women in pop music at that time.

The lyrics explore themes of jealousy and self-assurance. With lyrics like “It’s okay to just admit that you’re jealous of me / you’re obsessing, just confess it” followed by the repeated chorus lyric “I’m your number one,” make for an easy-to-follow power anthem and story.

EASYFUN’s electric production infuses the song with a pulsating energy that pumps from the beginning and doesn’t lull until the very end. This gritty backing paired with Charli’s punchy and processed vocals makes for a catchy and quintessentially XCX track.

‘Von Dutch’ sprints out the gate with an impressive and specific tone that Charli executes with a high level of experience and skill in the pop music arena. Now we have to wait and see if this pace and feeling will continue further throughout her upcoming album releasing this summer.
