After being in the dark since their last release ‘Children of the Sky’, Imagine Dragons returns with a new anthem that blends rap, rock, alternative, and pop elements called ‘Eyes Closed’.
‘Eyes Closed’ was first teased on March 10, 2024 with multiple snippets on the band’s twitter account, in which they supplied their fanbase with secret codes and riddles to solve for access to additional song teasers and lyrics.
Produced by the duo Mattman & Robin, the group’s newest single showcases empowering lyrics about overcoming adversity and mental health struggles. The song opens with a hip-hop beat echoing in the background enhanced with string swells and with frontman Dan Reynolds proclaiming with confidence: “I could do this with my eyes closed”.
With a future-facing single that welcomed the world to the band’s new era and its fusion of multiple genres, ‘Eyes Closed’ not only invites listeners into a world of resilience when dealing with life’s obstacles, but through its lyrics it evokes the importance of being confident amid banning things that hold you back and mental health struggles.
Alongside the track, the band released a music video directed by Andrew Donoho, in which Reynolds finds himself in some type of an ancient fictional world where he gets trapped in a maze and has to fight these challenges. With the main theme of the track being about overcoming barriers and achieving empowerment, it is notable that the music video alluded to Imagine Dragons’ compelling lyrics.
‘Eyes Closed’ is the first single of Imagine Dragons' new era.
