Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ Brews Retro-Summer Vibes With A Shot Of Confidence

Between wrapping up as the opening act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and hitting the main stage at Coachella, Sabrina Carpenter serves up a new summer hit titled ‘Espresso’.

On April 4, 2024, Carpenter surprised her fans by teasing that new music was “brewing”, waving goodbye to her ‘Emails I Can’t Send’ era.

Four days later, ‘Espresso’ was officially announced, along with cover artwork that teased a vintage feel to the singer’s new era and gave fans a taste of what is yet to come from her.

With its cheeky and confident lyrics and its groovy pop style, ‘Espresso’ serves as a sunshine anthem that is all about self-confidence and embracing your femininity as your source of empowerment and strength. Through its playful wordplay and catchy melodies, the single celebrates women and their superpowers as well as showcasing Carpenter’s personality and sense of humour, as she compares herself to a shot of espresso that keeps men up at night: "And now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh / Is it that sweet? I guess so / Say you can't sleep, baby, I know / That's that me, espresso".

Alongside the track, the singer released a music video directed by Dave Meyers, in which the single’s care-free and relaxed feel is captured through a retro beachy summer vibe. Carpenter channels a 50s/60s pinup girl, exuding confidence and charm while enjoying a beachside vacation filled with men and luxury after stealing a guy’s gold credit card. The visual narrative embodies perfectly the song’s empowering message of embracing your femininity and seizing the moment with unapologetic confidence.

Carpenter last released music in November 2023, dropping a holiday EP titled ‘Fruitcake’ and recently landed her first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with her hit song ‘Feather’ peaking at No. 26.
