From hard-hitting alternative rock to soothing bedroom pop, she really is a genius amongst us, creating record after record of well-crafted, thought-out music.
The English singer-songwriter first signed to her record label Dirty Hit in 2018 after her single ‘Coffee’ was released just the year before; this gained lots of online attention and immediately put Beabadoobee on the map. This was quickly followed by two extended plays in both 2018 and 2019, before embarking as a supporting act on Clairo’s tour later in September 2019. In such a short space of time, Beabadoobee skyrocketed to become a household name to all indie music fans out there, and the anticipation for new music was intense. There was a longing for it.
Recently, Beabadoobee has presented fans with the new track titled ‘Ever seen’ as yet another teaser for her upcoming album ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves’. This album is projected to focus more on the person she is becoming and subsequently understanding, as the lyrics in this single suggest, rather than looking to victimise others in difficult situations- a route some of her previous productions have ventured down. Although her fan base adore this previous work, and rightly so, it is encouraging and exciting to see the versatility of the artist really flourish. Yes, she can do heartbreak and finds great tragedy in loss and separation, but this single provides us with such a different outlook on life.
Her second line “Don’t want to risk just making all the same mistakes” makes it evident, almost immediately as we press play, that Beabadoobee has every intention of learning from her past, a lesson everyone should be taking from the musician. She goes on to sing” I pull myself back up and you know this”, another truly inspiring lyric encapsulating all that it means to grow older and discover one’s own self-worth, combined with a love for the self that is unattainable purely through the affection of others.
With a beat just as melancholy as some of her other work, but this time with the twist of upbeat self-love and awareness, this song really is one for the charts. It’s a smash hit and undoubtedly an integral anthem to all who are embarking on a journey to realise the reality of relationships; it is crucial to gain self-understanding before hearts can be handed over to others.
