Blossoms Tackle The Perception Of Perfection In New Single

Since 2013, the idiosyncratic icons Blossoms have been revolutionising the indie rock scene, bringing forth their energising collective sound to fans around the world. Forming in Stockport, the members met one another through school and working environments before coming together as teenagers and creating the band that would come to be the well-loved, well-known Blossoms.

Through all of this, their love for music and songwriting has never slowed down; they have released four albums in the last ten years and have performed at multiple national festivals, with their own outdoor all-day festival being held in August of this year. It’s highly anticipated and their biggest event yet. Consequently, it’s clear that the hype around these guys is only growing as time goes on, and the lead-up to their new album, ‘Gary’, simply reinforces this. Teasing the release, the band recently issued their single, ‘Perfect Me’, a spontaneous creation resulting in the perfect, anthemic lead-up to ‘Gary’

The song begins with the synth sound that the band reported was their foundation; one member pressed the synthesiser and from there it grew and developed before turning into the tune we have today. It’s distinctive, one of those sounds that allows listeners to name it from a few seconds in. Shortly after, the rest of the band join in, utilising their instruments to create this full and powerful sound encompassing the energy that backs the lyrics up.

The creativity demonstrated by this is second to none and provides Blossoms with the undisputed title of musical geniuses. The tune speaks to the impossibility of perfection and subsequently filters into that which our society deems as perfect today; that itself is always impossible to attain as there is inevitably always something that one cannot achieve. This does not take away from the validity or exceptional nature of a person but is merely a downfall of the competitive and ego-centric society often exhibited by today’s standards. The lyrics “I’ve come to my senses / Life’s not easy” really draws on this, and tells their listeners that flawlessness is not to be strived for, but happiness and learning from oneself is the best takeaway from life.

The band makes their point beautifully throughout the song’s entirety, sprinkling each word with this irrefutable ability to express their thoughts.
