Guild Theory is a British alternative rock duo featuring vocalist, lyricist, and synth player Matt Smith, along with multi-instrumentalist Rob Lewis. The band formed in February 2022 when Smith and Lewis began collaborating remotely after connecting on an online music forum. Together, they have developed a dynamic, creating a distinctive mix of alternative, indie and progressive rock.
‘Indignant Swines’ begins with a haunting, staggered guitar arrangement that resonates alone until Matt Smith’s deep, indelible vocals kick in, creating a mirrored effect that results in a spine-tingling melody. As the track progresses, Guild Theory shows clear experimentation, using synths and blending acoustic and electric guitar for an unusual time signature and extended instrumentals. The improvisational feel leaves listeners in awe.
‘Indignant Swines’ is a thought-provoking track that has deeply political undertones as conveyed through the poet's lyrics “My friends have left me now. Black and blue and bruised. The enemy turned against me but I did nothing wrong”. Guild Theory seamlessly transitions into a darker realm compared to previous releases, experimenting with sound to create a vacant, chilling soundscape that intensifies as the track progresses.
Guild Theory has crafted an incredible experimental track with ‘Indignant Swines’, delving into the complexities of progressive rock. By focusing on finer details and infusing their unique style, they add a refreshing edge to the genre.
