Kacey Musgraves Is Taking Us ‘Deeper Into The Well’

Kacey Musgraves announced on her Instagram that “We’re going deeper into the well”. This is an extended version of her 2024 album release ‘Deeper Well’ and includes seven new tracks including ‘Irish Goodbye’ .

‘Irish Goodbye’ is the first single release of ‘Deeper Well’'s extended cut. The track is written, composed, and produced by Musgraves, Daniel Tashian, and Ian Fitchuk. 

The track is a testament to the heartbreaking pain of not receiving a proper goodbye from someone you care deeply for. An Irish goodbye is slang for leaving a party abruptly without notifying anyone. While many of the tracks on the original release of ‘Deeper Well’ include lots of sonic experimentation for Kacey, ‘Irish Goodbye’ takes us back to her early days. 

The song opens up with Kacey expressing her confusion and betrayal from whom she received an Irish goodbye. “Was I too much / Or was I a threat / To the vision you had that you hadn’t found yet?”.

The song is simple but thoughtful. The stripped-down production allows for a spotlight on Kacey’s vocals and storytelling. The delicate and dreamy string section provides the perfect tone to accompany Kacey’s confusion and melancholia. The whimsical keys and soft guitar strums allow the listener to be carried away by the track’s soothing melodies.
