Lady Gaga And Bruno Mars Create Music History With New Single ‘Die With A Smile’

It has been around three years since global sensations Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have released new music, and it’s safe to say this collaboration was an unexpected one. The one-off single ‘Die With A Smile’ has absolutely astonished fans in the best way.

Both Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have been ruling the charts separately for years now. The first time they performed together was back in 2016 at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show but earlier this year was when Mars confessed he would like to collaborate with Gaga in the future, during an interview with Las Vegas Review-Journal. Whilst Gaga’s fans have been awaiting a new album for quite some time now, it turns out there was a music release on the horizon after all.

The track explores how you shouldn’t take life or the people in it for granted because you never know when you might have to say goodbye. It’s a romantic song about how their love is “the only one worth fighting for” and it highlights how important the little things in life are.

This incredible love song starts with Mars’ realisation that nobody lives forever and that in his final moments on earth, he would want to spend them with his lover. Hence the title ‘Die With A Smile’, as he would be with them “If the world was ending”.

Along with it, of course is a music video of the pair performing the track in a 70’s inspired studio where the performance is being broadcasted. It opens with a shot of the camera capturing the staging in black and white and then pans over to Bruno Mars in colour, to start the opening verse. As the verse is drawing to a close the stage lights get brighter and as we reach the chorus they flash in time with the beat, which makes the song even more dramatic and powerful. Gaga is sat at a piano to begin with but during one of the chorus’ she gets up to dance as Mars hits an insane high note. The video closes with the pair singing to each other whilst a heart cut out forms around them.

This surprising hit was produced by Dernst D’Mile Emile II, who has worked with Mars in the past on songs such as ‘Leave The Door Open’ which has a very similar feel to it. It is a cinematic pop rock ballad, where the duo’s vocals blend together seamlessly. The verses are softly sang, contradicting the chorus which has much more of a belt to it. It pays tribute to 70s dreamy duets whilst keeping a modern aspect to it, including their vintage instruments and their matching outfit style.

It provokes a plethora of emotions, It can be very melancholic and make you want to cry whilst simultaneously making you want to get up and groove, as shown by Gaga in the video. It is a show stopping collaboration from them both and one that will most definitely be remembered.
