Secret Towns Prove They’re ‘The Real Thing’ With New Single

Infiltrating the airwaves across the pond, Atlanta-based Secret Towns should soon be winning over new UK listeners with their latest single, ‘The Real Thing’.

Made up of five incredibly talented individuals, Luke Thornton (guitar, vocals), Sam Pena (bass), Harry Dulaney (drums), Irving Molefe (keyboards), and John Burns (guitar), Secret Towns came to formation back in 2018. Since then, the five-piece have released two full-length albums, which is absolutely no small feat for any independent artist. ‘Nightlights’ was released in September 2021, whilst new track ‘The Real Thing’ finds itself on their second album ‘Summerland’ released in July this year.

The Real Thing’ is a perfect example of their self-described “psychedelic pop and lush atmospheres”. Immediately, an ethereal, textured background is established through a satisfying concoction of tranquil ambience and the intertwining, juxtaposed acoustic and electric sounds of guitarists Luke Thornton and John Burns.

Whilst the dreamy guitars are certainly the stand-out element of the single, Secret Towns also explore harmonic dissonance and resolution in order to always keep the listener on their toes. Through trying to second-guess their next move, the track’s 4:15 minutes fly by in a catchy and equally suspenseful manner.

This anticipation effectively builds and breaks within the middle 8 section, making for a magical pairing of soaring guitars and pressing drums before finally diving into the final chorus.

Secret Towns have proved themselves as a force to be reckoned with within the indie-rock scene; with a six-year strong dedication to their craft and a unique blend of talents, they’re certainly on the path to massive success.
