NOAHFINNCE Re-evaluates His Childhood In Brand New Single ‘PET WITH THE TISM’

Following the release of his debut album ‘GROWING UP ON THE INTERNET’ earlier this year, NOAHFINNCE is back with a brand new single ‘PET WITH THE TISM’, which is set to be part of the deluxe version which comes out on November 1st. Keen to shine a light on important subject matters, this new track delves into his experiences as someone with autism.

Noah originally began his career as a YouTuber (accidentally) as he would post weekly covers on his channel as a teen. If you’ve never had the pleasure of listening, he would often cover artists such as Twenty One Pilots and Yungblud. You can certainly see how they have influenced Noah’s current music and he even had the opportunity to perform at Yungblud’s festival, Bludfest in August this year.

Much like his album, his new track has a lively and fun sounding beat to it which is reminiscent of an early 2000s pop punk track. It begins instantaneously with a booming guitar and maintains an energetic pace throughout, only slowing down in order to build up to the bridge. Including ad libs such as “Penny made a burn book/ (she did what?)” in this section feels like an authentic conversation about the situation and will definitely be incredible at live shows for fans to scream. Together with vulnerable lyrics that have a hint of sarcasm and frustration throughout, it makes for a catchy tune.

Despite its upbeat tempo, the lyrics describe what is probably the unfortunate reality for a lot of autistic people. The chorus starts with the line “Everybody here’s looking down on me”, which immediately makes the listener face the way that Noah feels, he’s definitely not afraid to speak his mind even if the topic makes people uncomfortable. The song in its entirety sums up the feeling of being bullied and condescended.

Noah took to TikTok and Instagram to clarify and share the origin story behind his new track, stating that people would treat him as their “pet freak” because of his autistic traits growing up in order to belittle and infantilise him. Even the video linked with this explanation is filmed at a playground to fit the theme of the song. The Mean Girls reference of a burn book being created is also based on a true story of a girl he knew who used to call him her “little gerbil”, hence the title of the song.

Although the main focus is on how Noah was treated, there are elements where he lifts the spirit lyrically. For instance he repeats “But my parents say they’re proud of me” and “My bitch says he’s proud of me” as the closing line, to show that despite these people trying to tear him down, he has people that love him for who he is. To finish the song there is a childlike mocking tone to the last vocals which reiterates the idea of a childhood bully however this time the roles are reversed.

‘PET WITH THE TISM’ is just a taste of what to expect from Noah’s deluxe album, with three more brand new songs to come before he sets out on his headlining tour around the UK, with South arcade as support and special guest Taylor Acorn.
