The Beaches Embrace Vulnerability and Fame in The Reflective ‘Jocelyn’

The Beaches have shared a deeply introspective new single, ‘Jocelyn’, that pays tribute to their ever-growing fan base while diving into the complexities of fame.

Following a whirlwind year after the success of their album, ‘Blame My Ex’, along with a massive sold-out North American tour and opening slots for legends like The Rolling Stones, girl in red, and Greta Van Fleet, the Toronto-based band now reflects on the human side of stardom.

Jocelyn’ represents a significant evolution in The Beaches' discography. It's a dreamy, laid-back track with a slightly woozy vibe, directly influenced by the surge of attention they received after the viral success of ‘Blame Brett’. While that track focused on personal heartbreak ‘Jocelyn’ turns the lens outward, addressing the bewildering adoration they’ve garnered along the way.

Musically, the song stays true to the band’s alt-rock roots. Drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel lays down an infectious, head-nodding beat, while Jordan Miller's velvety vocals deliver a raw sense of disbelief and vulnerability. Joined by guitarists Leandra Earl and Kylie Miller, The Beaches create a soundscape that’s both reflective and defiant, using introspective lyrics to ask, “What do you even see in me, Jocelyn?”

This vulnerability is central to the track’s theme. Miller’s crooning voice, combined with the band’s tight instrumental performance, highlights the tension between public adoration and the private insecurities that come with being thrust into the spotlight. As they question their worthiness of the acclaim they’ve received, the song offers a rare peek behind the curtain, where even rock stars can feel unsure of themselves.

Jocelyn’ reminds listeners that no matter how invincible an artist may seem on stage, they’re still figuring things out, just like everyone else. It’s a powerful message of self-reflection, set against the backdrop of The Beaches' rising fame, solidifying their place as a force in the alt-rock world while keeping their feet grounded in their humanity.
