A joyous piano melody kicks off the ‘Shaken By The Wind’ journey as the 24-year-old talent is putting soul back on the map for Scots and Brits alike.
Scotland’s last mainstream soul act came in the form of Paolo Nutini and hopefully the name Brooke Combe will start to become a little more familiar with the release of her debut studio album at the start of 2025.
‘Shaken By The Wind’ is not doubling but tripling down on the soul memo initiated by Combe’s last singles ‘The Last Time’ and ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’. If these three insights into the album - also named for that latter single - are anything to go by, it is kicking off 2025 with lots of funk, groove, and most importantly, soul.
Throughout the chorus a tambourine enters the musical playing field, acting as the perfect pairing for Combe’s vocals. Much like the star sings “What I see I see” and “What I hear is all it can be”, her vision for this single is displayed in its truest form. Drums are also present, fitting into the background arrangement like a jigsaw piece, moving from ear to ear as the song plays in an ingenious turn in the mix!
It’s good to know music is in safe hands with the soul singer as she is clued up on her music knowledge past and present, sharing writing credits on this hit with Tom McFarland from dance act, Jungle. The album cover for this single evokes another legendary UK act, David Bowie. The rock icon’s 70s photoshoot for ‘Diamond Dogs’ sees him pictured with a dog barking loudly at the camera and although Combe’s dog may not be barking, the homage from the singer and her vizsla definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.
