Gurriers’ New Video Is A Creative And Cool Watch

Gurriers debut album ‘Come and See’ , released 13th September, is full of post-punk passion: aggressive drums, violent vocals and a screeching array of guitars.

The Dublin-based band have brought a similar sound to that of other Irish rock bands like Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital and Sprints. A running theme of socio-political ideas, religion and existential ideas can be seen in these bands work and ‘Come and See’ is no exception. Their latest video release for single ‘Dipping Out’ showcased the bands creativity and personality whilst in keeping with the songs aggressive sound.

In the video, we see the band getting their pictures taken by an increasingly annoyed photographer. As the video progresses, it keeps cutting back to the same shot of the five members sitting waiting for their turn, each wearing a bored expression whilst lead singer Dan Hoff barks out the lyrics with anger. It acts as almost an introduction to the band with each member having their own moment. Especially, when the scene sees a quick succession of shots which sees the band playing their instrument individually, the furious camera movements reflecting the song's harsh chorus. The band pops up in different parts of the room before disappearing again, directly visualising the song's lyrics “All my friends are dipping out” and this scene is matched with a strobing effect further enhancing the erratic atmosphere.

As the video progresses, we see the band begin to wear different outfits as the photography grows more and more frustrated. Dan Hoff appears with giant Mickey Mouse-esque hands and a red hat while bassist Emmet White sports an 80's ski suit while blowing a kiss to the camera. It shows a sense of individuality for everyone in the band while still maintaining an entertaining and fitting video for the track.

The video for Dipping Out is creative and cool while still in keeping with traditional rock video conventions and providing a solid video for a very exciting debut album. Gurriers start their tour in October.
