Tonoso have released their mesmerising new single, ‘Take Your Time’, a captivating track that portrays a two-way conversation between two enamoured individuals, each yearning to reach the other only to be met with an engaged phone line.
Tonoso is a duo based in Los Angeles whose music amalgamates indie-dance, psych-rock, and funk, driven by Jacob Grabb’s percussion and distinctive vocals, along with Paul Salnero’s jazz-influenced guitar work and sound design expertise. Together, they boldly experiment with diverse soundscapes, utilising unconventional instrumentals to push boundaries and create a truly unique, non-conformist sound.
‘Take Your Time’ features a unique song structure, blending elements of authenticity of indie pop with a touch of nu-disco. Tonoso weaves smooth, velvety melodies through a subtle synth layered with Grabb’s rich, deep vocals with soft female harmonies to capture heartfelt lyrics such as: “I just wanna hear you talk / you don’t gotta say a lot / but baby if you’re so inclined / you can tell me everything”, creating a dreamy, romantic atmosphere.
The introduction of a four-on-the-floor drumbeat transitions into energetic synthesizers, establishing an upbeat tempo that drives a disco-inspired groove, gradually flowing into shimmering instrumentals and a vibrant, colourful atmosphere. The added use of dial tones mimics a phone call, aiding the narrative between the two romantically involved individuals.
Tonoso effortlessly blends beautiful melodies and catchy hooks with electronic elements, crafting a dream-like soundscape that transitions into an upbeat tempo and danceable rhythms, making for an irresistibly engaging listening experience.
