The Kid LAROI continues to cement his place in hip-hop with his latest single ’APEROL SPRITZ’ which has had fans waiting in anticipation for months. It follows on from ‘THE FIRST TIME (DELUXE VERSION)’ which includes popular tracks ‘HEAVEN’ and ‘GIRLS’. After hearing snippets of this track on TikTok, the buzz around the song grew astronomically and it’s now available to stream.
Right from the start It’s refreshing and catchy, with summery instrumentals that inspire images of sun-soaked afternoons. Accompanied by LAROI’s typical upbeat synths and unique vocals, it embraces vibrant and carefree youth. It perfectly translates the spirit of the cocktail itself.
The vocal delivery of the track is incredibly strong as LAROI flawlessly changes between melodic hooks and rap verses. From boasting and taking pride in his success to his genuine love and affection for his girl, it balances out the themes of the song. In the chorus he expresses that his “favourite hobby is probably getting rich” as for the past few years he has been reaching insane levels of success in the music industry. Then intertwined are more vulnerable moments like “Take you shoppin’, I’ma spend it on you just for love”. Speculated to be about pop star, Tate McRae, the lyric “I drink Henn’, she drink Aperol Spritz” is even supposedly based on their favourite drinks, although neither of them have confirmed if the song is about her.
Throughout the song LAROI’s confidence shines through his lyrics such as “I promise you ain’t had it like this” and “Said he got a watch, but that shit don’t shine” showcasing his faith in himself as a partner but also his wealth and success. He also brags about how “There’s a whole lotta girls up in here, but / Can’t nobody f*ck with my b*tch” to make it known that he’s loyal to the person he’s with despite his status.
His accompanying music video, directed by Alex Lill depicts this idea as LAROI is surrounded by different girls to convey him as the heartthrob that he is. It begins with a shot that closes in on him singing, with the girls standing behind him, who then chase after and jump on top of him in excitement. The end over head shot is then similar to a ‘90s fashion spread as LAROI is lying in the middle of the floor, with girls arranged around him. They’re all in simple black clothing to contrast against him.
Despite its short run time at just two minutes and 10 seconds, Its infectious sound will definitely stick with you even after the track ends. The song as a whole effortlessly captures the essence of summer and gives you that same buzz a real Aperol Spritz would.
