Leeds-based indie band English Teacher have released the highly anticipated vinyl edition of their August ‘Live From BBC Maida Vale’ EP.
The five-track recording, captured during a special BBC Maida Vale session, showcases the band’s talent for reinventing songs with a mix of bold changes and subtle twists that work perfectly with the original cuts. The clear white vinyl itself is a stunning collector’s item and is complemented by the beautiful black-and-white cover photography featuring shots from the Maida Vale recording.
Among the standout tracks are their reimagined version of Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds Of A Feather’ and their live cut of ‘You Blister My Paint’ from debut album ‘This Could be Texas’. English Teacher inject a burst of new life into these tracks, putting their own spin on them while retaining the original sound - a feat which is so hard to achieve. The result is a fresh sound that perfectly complements the band’s signature style.
Along with the Eilish cover and ‘You Blister My Paint’, the EP features a diverse range of reworked songs that include LCD Soundsystem’s ‘New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’, ‘The World’s Biggest Paving Slab’, and their album’s title track, highlighting the band’s broad musical influences and willingness to experiment. These tracks have been turning heads, winning over fans, and drawing new listeners as English Teacher continues to rise in the UK indie scene.
Fans of both English Teacher and the original artists will enjoy the mix of the bold covers and reworked originals, all showcasing the band’s talent. Currently on their UK tour, English Teacher are making waves across the country - so be sure to stay tuned for more details on upcoming performances.
