Kesha Breaks Free In New Music Video For ‘JOYRIDE’

Kesha has paved the way for artists since the late 2000s, not only with her chart topping tracks such as single 'TiK ToK', but with her strong personality and beliefs.

Now as an independent artist 'JOYRIDE', which was released on independence day, is her first single under Kesha Records.

In her long-awaited action filled new music video for the track, Kesha is on the run from multiple gangs, who's names appear on screen as they're shown. This includes the likes of Yippie & the Kiyays, Sadie the Stabber & The Crazyboys, Rowdy Ricky & the Red Flags and the mega-jacked Derk Delusional (the one to Outrun). The video initially starts with the radio announcing that popstar Kesha is about to be "released after 9 years of wrongful imprisonment", which is thought to be a reference to her legal battles with Dr. Luke. The cinematic video explores a quick pace to mimic the style of the song itself, and perfectly showcases the high stake chase Kesha is in.

Ready to escape, we see Kesha emerge in a red convertible in the middle of the desert, speeding away from a helicopter and the words 'Kesha Is Mother' appear on screen. Claiming her spot as a pop culture icon, floods of comments on the video express their love and agreement with the statement. Later in the song itself she even sings "A label whore but I'm bored of wearing clothes / You want kids? / well I am mother" solidifying her freedom as an artist and the confidence that she's now built in herself. The combination of video and lyrics mesh so well together as it shows Kesha as the powerful woman that she is.

Directed by Laura GorunDimitri Basil and Cooper Roussel, the video consists of the gangs starting to trail her one by one, before she's being chased by them all. Constantly trying to avoid being their target she succeeds because despite the amount of shots fired, not one manages to hit her. We then see flashes of Kesha posing with the convertible with her red leather outfit now fully on show before she seemingly gets into a collision with Derk as he points a shotgun at her car ; this scene is meant to hint at her next single 'DELUSIONAL', set to be released on the 29th of November.

As a whole the video shows Kesha revelling in her success and her fearlessness as she takes her battles in her stride. Her quintessential high energy and bold attitude shines once again, reminding the world that she is in fact mother.
