Kooks and lovelytheband Combine For Latest Single ‘Jeanie’

Running at just over two minutes and 40 seconds, collaborative effort ‘Jeanie’ is the Kooks’ first output since the release of their 2022 album '10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark’

Silky and commanding, ‘Jeanie’ has a rigid structure, however socially, it is allowed to breathe and sway, with a number of effect-drenched instruments enlisted.

The core of the song is based around thumping electronic drums and plodding synths, which really set the ethereal scene early on in the cut. Scratchy and rapid lead guitar riffs are paired with a funky bass guitar, adding further to this dreamy feel.

The vocals are solid yet soft, the lyrics seem to flow effortlessly from both vocalists as they simply glide atop of the swirling instrumental pieces. Both lead vocalists compliment each other well, as they trade verses and combine for the chorus with relative ease, with no disturbing distinction between both.

This feels like somewhat of an evolution from the legendary indie-rock band, gone are the smiley plucks of an acoustic guitar and simple vocals. Possibly thanks to the influence and collaboration of lovelytheband, this single feels different to their previous work.

'Jeanie’ is grand, and seems to command a larger sonic space in comparison to some of their earlier, more popular hits. This latest effort feels like a statement return with a more mature and considered approach.
