Tucker Harrington, the American Musician who goes by the stage name Role Model, had his London show at Brixton's O2 Academy on Friday for his fourth show of the No Place Like Tour run.
This tour is following the release of his 2024 album ‘Kansas Anymore’ and the title is a reference to The Wizard of Oz. Matilda Mann who is a British Indie Folk artist from West London was his support act and helped settle the crowd in.
Role Model started the set-off with ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ which is the first song on his new album ‘Kansas Anymore’ and the fans in the seating section shot up and started singing and dancing along. Many of the crowd were wearing merch of his, and there were quite a few people wearing cowboy hats. Role Model was wearing his own Fangirl hat merch and had a minimal stage set up with him at the front and the band behind on a raised platform.
‘Scumbag’ was next to be performed by Role Model, and he introduced the song by saying “My name is Sabrina Carpenter”. He did this for multiple songs, saying a different musician each time, including Ross Lynch and Ed Sheeran. At one point, he also made a reference to Sabrina Carpenter’s tour when she playfully arrests someone for being too hot. Another joking interaction he had with the crowd was when he was mentioned a song he was going to perform that his mother used to sing to him when he was younger, which ended up being ‘Sign Of The Times’ by Harry Styles.
Role Model’s internet alter ego Saint Laurent Cowboy was featured during the concert as well as his beef with People Magazine’s as he got everyone in the crowd to boo the magazine. This is referencing his playful campaign to win People Magazine’s Sexiest Musician Award, which Harry Styles ended up being chosen for.
When introducing the song ‘Frances’ Role Model brought out Ross MacDonald from the English band The 1975 who he collaborated with making the song. When the track finished, Role Model said to Ross, “You might as well stay on for the next one” as they started playing his Spotify Singles Pop cover of ‘Somebody Else’ which was originally made by The 1975. After, Role Model made everyone in the crowd shout “We Love You Ross” as Ross walked off the stage.
Junia Lin Jonsdottir came onto the stage to play the strings part of ‘Compromise’ which is a more stripped down song and the audience started to wholesomely sway side to side whilst singing along with Role Model. He also played his hits ‘Superglue’, ‘Oh, Gemini’ and ‘Slut Era Interlude’.
The gig finished with Role Model’s most “Ass Shaking” (in his words) song, ‘Deeply Still In Love’. This song was definitely the most popular song, as everyone was singing the lyrics at the top of their lungs whilst dancing enthusiastically. Role Model put on a great performance in London and showcased his talent as well as his humour.
