Iggy Pop Releases Live Recording Of ‘The Passenger’ Ahead Of Album

In anticipation of live album 'Live At Montreux Jazz Festival 2023' being released in the new year, Iggy Pop has dropped the rendition of 1977 single 'The Passenger' taken from the concert.

Recorded at the Stravinsky Hall on the artist's third appearance at the festival, it's arguably one of the artist's most recognisable tracks, evident from fans' response in the accompanying official video

The live footage of the performance sees Iggy domineering the stage in his usual shirtless attire, accompanied by a live band, perfectly encapsulating his relationship with his audience. At one point, the crowd carries the iconic "La la la la la la la la" chorus, encouraged by Iggy with an outstretched mic, accompanied by bass and drums. It's a testament to the song's impact and how, even now, it is an earworm that must be sung aloud.

From the iconic, singable chord progression and added flourishes of horns to the frontman's untouched vocals, this live recording cements the presence of the song as one of the greats, not only from the avant-garde legend's extensive catalogue but also in the rock genre as a whole.

'Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2023' will be released on January 24th 2025, via earMUSIC, featuring more of the punk pioneer's hits. Pre-order/pre-save here.
