Edie Yvonne's 'I Might': A Bold Anthem of Heartbreak and Empowerment

Rising talent Edie Yvonne is only sixteen but packs a punch with her music. Her latest single, ‘I Might’ is the third instalment in her trilogy of lyrical letter writing.

Her previous singles, ‘Epitome’ and ‘Burn’ craft a narrative of honesty and tough love, whereas ‘I Might’ is about finally facing the harsh reality of letting go and taking back the power.

‘I Might’ begins with a dynamic acoustic guitar arrangement, complemented by a blunt,  secondary guitar that weaves together low and high tones to produce a mesmerising, psychedelic sound. This hazy sonic landscape reflects the numbness of a broken heart, but as the track progresses, Edie Yvonne introduces a striking drumbeat that kicks in with intensity punctuated by a surging electric guitar symbolising the moment of clarity and taking back power that comes with letting go.

Edie’s strong yet delicate vocals are brimming with emotion, delivering poignant lyrics like, “I heard your bark / But I didn’t see your bite / Left my mark in the centre of your eye / Now I’m caught in every corner of your mind / I didn’t mean to but I might,” with a haunting intensity. Her tone perfectly mirrors the hazy instrumentals, amplifying the song’s ethereal and haunting atmosphere. Her voice effortlessly weaves through the contrasting guitar melodies, creating a striking balance between her soaring highs and the deeper, richer tones below.

‘I Might’ is a power-stance anthem that embraces vulnerability, encapsulating teenage angst in an endearing, diaristic storytelling style by cleverly blending a youthful naivety with emotional maturity told through indie dream pop.
