Seven Questions With Anna Erhard

With tracks that explore social etiquette, Tripadvisor addicts, the Blue Man Group, and even battles of height, Berlin-based Anna Erhard's discography covers it all.

Her third record, 'Botanical Garden' (released last September) received praise for its indie-pop palatability, and followed on from the woozy escapism of 'Campsite'.

With a UK tour on the horizon, we chat with Anna to unveil her 'desert island' album picks and wild run-ins with fans as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.

Introduce yourself and where you’re from.

I’m Anna Erhard, a Swiss musician who lives in Berlin since a couple of years. This is where I’ve been writing + recording my three albums.

What do our readers need to know about you?

Most importantly they should know that I am 170cm tall.

What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?

I am returning to the UK this March to play a tour as well as some festivals over the summer. We’ve been playing there quite a bit over the last two years and always had a wonderful time. Somehow the British people seem to understand me better than my fellow Swiss and Germans. Why is that?

What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?

When we played in London in October there was a guy who brought a measuring tape to the show. He wanted to check if I was really 170cm as I insist in my song '170'.

So while I was singing the song he handed me the tape to measure myself but it turned out to be 150cm long, so the mission kind of failed. I’ve been in generally doing a lot of back to back height measuring with people who came to the show. That’s all I ever wanted.

What’s been your “I’ve made it’ moment so far?

Maybe the one I just described! And also seeing people in a full room singing along the lyrics, that was really special.

What are your three “desert island” albums?

'The Roches' by The RochesI love all of there songs and they just make me happy.

'Bashed Out' by This is the KitI’ve been listening to this album so often over the past few years, it’s incredibly comforting and I never get tired of it.

And I should also get something to dance to so I will bring along Prince. 'Diamonds and Pearls' by Prince.

Unfortunately now there isn’t any album to rage to, in case times on the island are getting tough.. maybe I can play them all backwards at the same time or something like this.

Sum up your sound in three words.
