On Saturday 1st March 2025, London’s O2 Arena will host the 45th BRIT Award Ceremony. But who are the nominees? And what are the categories?
Leading in award nominations is Charli xcx who has 5 different category nominations. These are for Mastercard Song Of The Year for 'Guess’ featuring Billie Eilish, Artist Of The Year, Dance Act, Pop Act, and Mastercard Album Of The Year for 'BRAT’.
Joining her are acts including Dua Lipa, Ezra Collective and The Last Dinner Party with 4 nominations each. Goth rock icons The Cure and jungle artist Nia Archives both feature in 3 categories. The latter act is the first jungle artist to ever receive 3 BRIT Award nominations, with jungle being a sub-genre of electronic dance music.
English Teacher and Myles Smith both feature in the Best New Artist category, both have recently obtained other awards for their music. English Teacher obtained the 2024 Mercury Prize Award, with Myles Smith being the recipient of the BRIT Rising Star Award for 2025. This latter award is given to the act that the voting academy believe will be most impactful on the upcoming music year.
With many of the acts nominated in previous years for BRIT Awards, there are some notable mentions. The Beatles’ final track ‘Now And Then’ is their first BRIT nomination since 1977. This will also be the Cure’s first ceremony since 1993. Lola Young was last nominated in 2022, with her song ‘Messy’ promoting her music career once again.
The categories of International Song Of The Year and International Artist coincide with some artists overlapping. Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift are just a few of the names on both lists.
