Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand has released a music video for ‘Hooked’, which features an energetic live gig at Frontón in Mexico City.
‘Hooked’ was the third and final single in the run-up to the release of the group's new album, ‘The Human Fear’, which dropped on 10 January. Although the video’s visuals are from the Mexico show, the studio version is dubbed over them.
Filmed in October last year, well before ‘Hooked’ was available for public consumption, the audience in the video was being treated to a completely unreleased track. Their appreciation for the exclusive performance is evident in their energy as the camera often flickers back to them, including a shot of a fan throwing the band a heart with their hands as Kapranos sings “I thought I knew what love was”.
One thing this video does well is remind us that Kapranos is certainly a top-tier frontman. His confident, swift gestures and punk-suave mannerisms paired with clever editing (by Rianne White) successfully encapsulate the raw attitude of the track. He is sweat-soaked and often jumping, swinging and sliding to the floor. The artist raises his arms up from side to side in a power pose as he sings the album’s title words, “I got ‘The Human Fear’”.
The strobe lights draw attention to the full band, who are dressed in snazzy ensembles (including leopard print).
With a full filming crew present at the Mexico City show, Kapranos grabs the opportunity to stare into the camera as he growls “You got me ‘Hooked’”. The video is up on the band’s YouTube channel, along with the official video for ‘Night or Day’. If you fancy catching the band on their current tour, they’re due to play across the UK, Europe and North America over the next few months.
