FINNEAS had already set the scene with ‘Blood Harmony’ EP which included the single ‘Let’s Fall In Love For The Night’ that reached the top 20 on the Billboard Alternative Songs, and now he’s releasing his first album called ‘Optimist’ on October 15 via Interscope Records – following his early years as producer of successful singles like ‘Lose You To Love Me’ by Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber’s ‘Lonely’.
Previous this year, FINNEAS won two GRAMMY Awards with his sister Billie Eilish for Record of the Year, ‘Everything I Wanted’, and Best Song Written for Visual category, ‘No Time To Die’.
Introspection is the common theme that ties together all of these singles, painting a picture that draws on the struggles of a generation born between 9/11 attacks and the rise of echo chambers.
Raise your hand if you want to sign up “For a world without the Internet” where you can meet your friends at the mall without planning to hang out days before in a noisy WhatsApp group chat. 'The 90s' perfectly fits Zoomers’ mood when facing adulthood and work-from-home reality while Coronavirus still messes up the world. The song starts with a quiet and melancholic intro scanned by FINNEAS vibrant voice and a synthetized heartbeat. It's the stillness of lockdown, when the only thing that got us through the day were meetings and deadlines. Then, with one note, the beat drops and it’s like life has come back all of a sudden. The loud electric outro also recalls the feeling of confusion while scrolling social media’s feed full of breaking news and prepacked ideas on sale.
That’s a lot to process, but thanks to FINNEAS, we’ll keep being an ‘Optimist’ about what the future holds for us.
