Shae Brock Mourns Lost Love on New Single 'Wish'

Arizona native and self styled 'dream rocker', Shae Brock is a storyteller. An ardent diarist as a child, Brock is no stranger to bearing her innermost feelings.

At 16 after learning guitar, she started a band and began honing her craft. From these humble beginnings she would go on to collaborate with the likes of Gucci Mane and Phresher on the 2019 remix of her track 'Transparency'.

This time around, Brock opts to drown us in yearning and beautiful '60s melancholy on her most recent single, 'Wish'.

'Wish' is a soft and pensive acoustic dream-pop track about love lost and deep emotional yearning. Brock wears her heart on her sleeve here, longingly crooning for a summer fling wondering what could've been. Musically it draws influence from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Lana del Rey.

The track wastes no time getting into the main thrust; kicking off light acoustic guitar and poignantly visceral lyrics setting the scene, "I had a dream, we never met felt like I lost you again / Maybe you've already forgot me, making her coffee". From here Brock introduces her principal subject, lamenting how her partner had described her in the past. "You said you felt you belong to another / but you thought I was the one all summer"

The end of those lyrics give way to a Pink Floyd-esque guitar solo before coming back in with the refrain "Sometimes I think of you and I wish I knew what it would feel like to be loved by you". This guitar passage makes two more welcomed returns around the mid to late parts of the second verse and chorus.

The second verse opens with powerful imagery via the lyric, "You're hands touched my soul and left me on fire / but you wouldn't know I spoke like a liar" alongside recognition of the role the narrator played in the relationship's downfall. "Face, like the moon" is the final lyric that sees the song fade into a quiet, smouldering synth and organ tail before the track ends.

'Wish' is a haunting beautiful tale of love lost enamoured with the poetry and melodrama of emotional pining and definitely worth a listen.
