The Manchester-based duo Lazy Hunter are back with ‘Strange Times’ consisting of two tracks from their up-and-coming mini-album ‘Fast Track to the Peach Blossom Spring.’ Both songs offer a vibrant and exciting insight into what is to come from the pair in 2022.
Known for their sparkling hooks and fearless exploration of indie-rock, Lazy Hunter take the indie rule book, throw it to one side and let their imagination run wild in their latest tracks, ‘Strange Times’ and ‘Influencer.’ The Result? Two toe-tapping songs that will have you coming back for more.
Starting with the titular track ‘Strange Times,’ playful but introspective. Upbeat yet melancholic it is quintessentially indie but not in a typical way; Lazy Hunter boldly plays with their sound, adding harmonic guitars with a jangly effect, is almost addicting to listen to. This track is experimental, something new, yet oddly familiar which will reel in its listeners with its complex simplicity.
'Influencer' is different in sound but distinctive in its own right. Following a first-person narrative of an internet personality, it explores influencer phenomena and culture through brilliant synths and lively beats. Lazy Hunter uses harmonies with evident influence from bands such as The Mars Volta and The Killers with jangly sounds and relaxed vocals. There seems to be a lot going on, but this experimentation throughout adds to Lazy Hunter's narrative.
If these two tracks are anything to go by, it is a fascinating time for Lazy Hunter. Their exploration of the indie-rock genre is refreshing and brings something new that listeners can enjoy.
