Hayley Kiyoko Releases New Pop Summer Anthem ‘For The Girls’

Dance-pop singer Hayley Kiyoko, crowned “Lesbian Jesus” by her fans, has released the new single ‘For The Girls’ just in time for the summer.

Kiyoko first stepped onto the music scene as a teen. She was one of the founding members of girl group Stunners in 2007, who shortly disbanded after opening for Justin Bieber’s My World Tour.

She later went on to acting, starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie Lemonade Mouth. She officially started her solo career in 2015 with the EP ‘This Side of Paradise’, which included the hit song ‘Girls Like Girls’. Kiyoko has continued making music for women and about loving women ever since and was named to NPR’s list of “The 21st Century's Most Influential Women Musicians” in 2019.

The singer teased the release of the new single with a tweet stating, “It’s gonna be May and it’s gonna be gay”.

This chill dance-pop track is her first single of 2022, and the second release from her second album, ‘Panorama’, set to be released in July. The single dropped just in time for summer dance parties in the sun with all your friends. It features fun lyrics such as “Summer’s for the girls / The girls that like girls / The girls that like boys / The girls, the girls, the girls.” The track is a purely fun and empowering summer anthem. It also shows new talents from the singer, who self-directed the music video, a hilarious lesbian Bachelorette spinoff co-starring Bachelor star Becca Tilley.

About the single, Kiyoko says, “I love being a woman, and women have always been a massive influence on my life. ‘For The Girls’ is an anthem celebrating that love, highlighting our strength, beauty, and vulnerability…Being surrounded by queer people of many different gender identities and making art that feels relevant to us was the greatest gift. It was a reminder of how resilient this community is and how strong and confident we feel being our authentic selves together. No matter how you identify or who you love, I hope this summer bop makes you feel sexy and empowered.”

Hayley Kiyoko has always had star quality and never doubted who she is. She is sharing a message of self-love and acceptance that should be shared around the world and played at parties throughout the summer.
