Originally from the Isle of Wight, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers (better known as Wet Leg) have taken the world by storm, becoming viral on TikTok and gaining recognition from artists such as Harry Styles.
This comes after the release of their debut self-titled album ‘Wet Leg.’ They are said to be inspired by the likes of The Ronettes and Jane Birkin which is evident in their female-charged indie-rock.
Renowned remix masters Soulwax seized the opportunity to work with the up-and-coming band by taking the indie track ‘Too Late Now’ and turning it into a dance anthem.
Having previously worked with the likes of Tame Impala, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, and many other notable artists, it’s clear that Soulwax know how to spin a great track. Brothers Stephen and David Dewaele claim to ‘merge dance culture with hook-heavy songcraft’ and their take on ‘Too Late Now’ is the perfect example of that.
Starting with synths and a thumping beat, the remix of ‘Too Late Now’ carries the band’s signature wit and feminine energy, but adds a clubbing beat to it, making it the perfect dance track for a girls’ night out. Whilst far from the original indie track, it still takes the sung-spoken lyrics, showcasing the true essence of Wet Leg. Soulwax takes the vocals a step further by using them as a tool of instrumentation before introducing the full verse.
Soulwax once again demonstrates their ability to remix a great tune and take it to the next level whilst still retaining the uniqueness of the original artist. This single initially preceded the release of Wet Leg’s debut album and we hope there are more remixes to come.
